Memorial Day tribute on highway overpass

Travelers on Memorial Day got a reminder of what the holiday is about thanks to a veteran from Waverly. Gene Michael fought the wind on the Lone Tree Road overpass over Highway 218 so he could hold an American flag for all to see. He's been doing it on Memorial Day and other holidays for the last few years. He's a Vietnam veteran as is his brother and his friends.

"I'm a veteran and it's Memorial Day and I want people to remember. Pray for a vet. They've done so much for us. It's the least I can do is come out here and people on the road like it," said Michael.

It took strength to hold the flag with winds as strong as 25 to 30 miles per hour.
