Students sell lemonade to raise money for hospice

Just 50 cents gets you a nice, cool glass of lemonade at the Lincoln Elementary picnic in Cedar Falls to wrap up the school year.

Anita Vanous's third grade class organized this lemon-aide stand to aid Cedar Valley Hospice.

"The money going to buy games for the children's room for the children of patients or the grandchildren or patients," said teacher Anita Vanous.

The lemonade stand is part of a service learning project where the students learn how to be good citizens. Different service organizations spoke to the class, and then the students decided they wanted to help, too.

"We've done a couple different things, and some of them will tell you little kids can do big things," said Vanous.

Vanous said her 19 students really took the lead on this project.

"They're making the lemonade and bringing it out, they're counting the change and they're serving," she said.

Serving up a cool glass of lemonade, hopefully 700 glasses to raise $350 for Cedar Valley Hospice.
