Church tower collapses in Belle Plaine

High winds from Tuesday night's storms in eastern Iowa blew down the bell tower at the First Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine.

A small group of people inside didn't hear the tower fall.
There's no damage to the actual church other than a collapsed entryway.
The 25-foot tall tower was built in 1966.

Church members say they can rebuild from the damage -- the most important thing is no one was hurt.

"We don't like to see something like that happen, but that's part of everyday life. That kind of stuff can be replaced. But nobody got hurt and I'm glad for that," said Ron Buch, Lutheran Church Congregation Chair

The church is waiting on insurance before cleaning up.

The church will meet with engineers to build a sturdier tower and entryway.
