Grundy Center man sentenced to 40 years in prison

A Grundy Center man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, after pleading guilty to producing child pornography and possessing child pornography.

Ricky Patten, 42, was sentenced Monday in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade.

Patten admitted to using a girl under the age of 18 to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of this conduct. It happened between 2008 and 2010.  He admitted he produced images of child pornography and possessed these images on camera cards.

Patten is being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
