GIFFORD (KWWL) -

A Gifford man is dead and authorities say it was his father who shot him.

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office was called to 31525 285th Street just after 9:30 a.m. Monday when 64-year-old Larry Tremmel called 911 saying he had shot his son.

When deputies arrived they found 31-year-old Joshua Tremmel with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to an Iowa Falls hospital where he died.

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office says Larry Tremmel and Joshua Tremmel were arguing when the dispute became violent and Larry Tremmel got a gun. The argument continued to escalate and authorities say Larry Tremmel shot Joshua Tremmel once in the chest.

Larry Tremmel cooperated with authorities for questioning and was released to family members. The Hardin County Attorney will determine if, and what, charges should be filed in the case.
