Cedar Falls students helping tornado victims

A month ago, a tornado ravaged the south in Alabama. Some Eastern Iowa students are doing  their part to help those tornado victims.

The sophomore government class at Cedar Falls High School has been hosting a bake sale before school to raise money for the Red Cross in Alabama. They are also selling T-shirts.

After hearing the news Monday morning about Joplin, Missouri, they say they may try to help that area as well.

"The kids have been involved with this from the beginning. We may take a look and talk about it amongst ourselves with Joplin, Missouri being in the news today and we may do something in that regards too. It is entirely up to the kids. They put the energy in it so we will let them make the decision," said Bob Schmidt, government teacher.

The students' goal is to raise $1,000. The sale will end the first week in June.
