Kerrigan brother's murder case nears jury

A prosecutor in the manslaughter trial of Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan's brother has told a jury that an "angry, mean, nasty, drunk son" killed Kerrigan's father.

Mark Kerrigan is charged in the 2010 death of his 70-year-old father, Daniel Kerrigan.

During closing arguments Monday, Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Keeley told the jury that Mark Kerrigan caused his father's death after he grabbed his father around the neck, breaking cartilage in his larynx and triggering heart failure.

But Kerrigan's lawyer said there is no evidence that the seconds-long fight was violent or that Mark Kerrigan's actions triggered the cardiac dysrhythmia that killed him. She says Daniel Kerrigan's severely blocked coronary arteries caused his heart failure.
