Day 2: Class 2A and 3A Coed State Track


An ominous sign right from the beginning. Rain delayed events for one hour, but once things got going, class 2A and 3A athletes shined on the blue oval.

We'll start with the 3A 400 boys hurdles and no surprise here. Waverly Shell Rock's Jackson Litterer and Blake Wilson finish 1-2. Litterer beating his teammate with a 53. 35 

Jackson Litterer said, "It's pretty awesome something we've been talking about all year, great work out partner, couldn't ask for anything more."

In the 3A boys long jump Dubuque Wahlert's Riley McCarron defends his state title with a jump of 22 feet, five inches.

In the girls 3A distance medley relay, Dubuque Wahlert takes advantage of defending champion Mount Vernon jumping the gun. The team of Kramer, Hancock, Janecke and Leytem set a school record with a time of 4:06.86

In the girls 400 meter hurdles, Mount Vernon's Holly Salzbrenner a little off last year's pace where she set a state record but does successfully defend her title.

In the 2a girls 4x200 meter relay, Cascade Western Dubuque takes the crown with a 1:44.57.

Also North Fayette's Lauren Smith did not disappoint repeating as state champion in the discus with a throw of 151 feet, just three inches shy of the meet record.
