Coed State Track Day 2A/3A

Athletes in classes 2A and 3A would get the opportunity to open this year's meet. At least one Eastern Iowa athlete would experience a bit of de ja vu.

Despite being the defending champion, Oelwein's Steven Meyer still was not the favorite in 3A high jump. Meyer, though, overcame the doubters clearing a personal best 6 feet, 7 inches for his second straight title.

"I was 4th coming in. I guess I told myself just to jump. Don't worry about it, and have fun, and compete," said Meyer.

In the 2A girls shot put, North Fayette's Lauren Smith took top honors with a throw of 40 feet, 9 inches, while Williamsburg's Dakotah Goodell's discus throw of 140 feet, 10 inches gave her a 3A title by just a half foot over Wahlert's Katelyn Weimerschirch. Back on the track, the Dubuque Wahlert girls took control in 3A 4 x 800 as Betsy Duere anchored the golden eagles home in a winning time of 9 minutes, 23 seconds.

Sumner-Fredericksburg's Jodi Miller is going out a champ taking the 2A 3,000 meters by 4 seconds over Jesup's Sammy Sproul. It was a bit of a redemption after Miller was the runner-up a year ago.

"It's like a dream come true. I worked so hard for this, and it paid off finally," said Miller.

Ben Stutt of Monticello took the 2A boys shot put with a throw of 56 feet, 6 inches, while Marisa Evers bolstered the Hudson girls hopes of a 2A team championship winning the open 400 meters, but she says the individual titles are not the number one goal this year.

"We're down here to win the team title, and honestly that's why I ran so hard in that 400. I knew that my points were going to help the team," said Evers.
