Man shot in the head after being mistaken for a turkey

The Grant County Sheriff's Department says a man was shot in the head after being mistaken for a turkey.

Deputies say 27-year-old Matthew Raley of Platteville was shot by 79-year-old James Wennerlind of Plymouth, Minnesota around 9:00 a.m. Thursday while they were hunting.

According to investigators, Wennerlind mistook Raley for a turkey and shot him from 25 yards away.

Raley was hit in the top of the head by the shotgun pellets.

Raley was transported to the Southwest Health Center and was treated and released.
