AURORA, Ill. (KWWL) -

Six-year-old Timothy Pitzen went missing about a week ago.

Timothy and his mother left their home in Aurora, Illinois and traveled to the Wisconsin Dells northwest of Madison, Wisconsin. That's where the two were last seen.

A few days later, Timothy's mother Amy Fry-Pitzen was found dead in a Rockford, Illinois hotel room.

Investigators said she committed suicide.

A suicide note said that Timothy was safe with people she did not identify.

Timothy's uncle, Chuck Pitzen lives in Waterloo. He and other family members have been passing out flyers around the Cedar Valley area hoping somebody in eastern Iowa might have spotted Timothy.

"I have a six year old daughter as well, they're like best friends. Yesterday my daughter and I handed out flyers. She wants to be involved but it's tough."

If you have any information regarding Timothy's disappearance, you are encouraged to call the Aurora police department at 630-256-5000.
