Police seek help in sexual assault case

Police in Cedar Rapids are asking for the publics help in finding a person of interest in connection to a sexual assault that happened earlier this month.

Sgt. Cristy Hamblin says a home invasion took place on Oakland Road Northeast across from Daniels Park May 5. She says a female in her 80's was sexually assaulted. The offender, described as a black male, then stole the woman's white Buick Century. That vehicle was located in Hiawatha May 10.

Police released a composite photo of the man believed to be involved with the stolen vehicle.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department is asking for anyone who was in the area of Daniel's Park around 5:00 p.m. and  has any knowledge or saw anything suspicious, to call the Cedar Rapids Police Department at 319-286-5491 or Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME (272-7463) with the information.

On October 1, 2009, a similar incident occurred in the 1400 blk. of Center Point Rd NE. That case is still under investigation.
