Hawks' Hippen Earns Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, again

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

University of Iowa baseball pitcher Jarred Hippen has been named Big Ten co-Pitcher of the Week.

The weekly honor is the second for Hippen in three weeks.

Hippen tossed a complete game shutout victory on Friday night. Iowa won at Ohio State 7-0.

"Jared threw outstanding," UI head coach Jack Dahm said in a written statement. "You could tell early in the game that he had command of all four pitches and did a great job. He's really maturated as a pitcher. It's fun to watch him every Friday night as he gives us a great chance to win."

The Rock Falls, Ill., native earned the weekly honor after pitching his third complete-game effort of the year in helping lead his team to victory. The junior scattered just three hits and two walks over nine innings and struck out five. The outing was his first complete-game shutout of the season, and third of his career, and helped the Hawkeyes to their first road series win of the year.
