WASHINGTON COUNTY (KWWL) -

A Washington High School graduate was injured while serving in Afghanistan. Family members of Alex Meyer from Ainsworth say the soldier was shot around 8:30 a.m. Central time on Sunday.

The 19-year-old underwent treatment at Bagram Air Force and has been taken to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany for additional treatment. He will eventually be transferred to military medical facilities in the United States. His wounds by small arms fire are not considered life-threatening.

Alex graduated from Washington High School in Washington in 2010. He joined the military during high school, and left for Afghanistan in January. He is serving with Waterloo's Company A, 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, with the Iowa National Guard.
