Three years since Agriprocessors immigration raid

May 12, 2008 was the day when Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents raided a kosher meat packing plant in Postville.  About 400 arrests were made that day.  Most faced criminal charges, but dozens were deported.

The detainees were bused from the plant to the National Cattle Congress in Waterloo following the raid.

The plant was later purchased by Agri Star Meat and Poultry.  The community of Postville has dealt with many effects of the raid in the years since the raid.

Last year, the former manager of Agriprocessors, Sholom Rubashkin, was sentenced to 27 years in prison after being convicted of 86 counts of financial fraud following the immigration raid.  In a separate trial, a jury found Rubashkin not guilty of 67 counts of child labor violations.  That trial lasted weeks and the jury took 12 hours to make its decision.
