Hall Of Fame Coach Moon retiring from Denver

A hall of fame girls basketball coach is retiring under a cloud of controversy.

Denver girls basketball coach Steve Moon has compiled more than 550 coaching victories in 34 years-- including 29 coaching the Cyclones.

Moon, who coached during the six player era, led Denver to 6 state tournaments including a second place finish in 1999.

But Moon was suspended with pay from the bench by the school administration this season because of a comment he made to one of his players.

Moon told me he regrets making the comment and wrote a letter of apology to the team and the player.

The incident was investigated by local authorities and no criminal charges were filed.

Moon is retiring from both teaching and coaching at the end of the school year. He says it's not because of the suspension. Moon says he still loves to coach, but other issues are compelling him to leave at this time.
