Dubuque Fighting Saints prep for Clark Cup Championship

Thursday the Dubuque Fighting Saints head to Green Bay, getting ready to play the first game of the Clark Cup Series. It's the team's inaugural season, one that started with creating everything from scratch. Now they're preparing to win the championship.

On the ice and off the ice, the Dubuque Fighting Saints are prepping for the Clark Cup Championship.

"The mentality going up there is believe in ourselves. Let's have a great start and let's try and put Green Bay on their heels," Head Coach Jim Montgomery said.

Wednesday we caught up with the Saints, during their practice. Thursday they head up to Green Bay. Friday they take on Clark Cup defending champs Green Bay.

"They have all the confidence in the world and hopefully we can use that as motivation to win the series," Dubuque native Brooks Bertsch said.

"You know you have to go in there and play better than them and you know when you're the underdog you have to work harder," Captain TJ Schueter said.

"They've got really skilled forwards for one, that can put the puck in the net. All around, top to bottom they are a solid team that's tough to play every night," Vinny Saponari said.

Green Bay is a familiar site for the Saints, who beat the Gamblers in their regular season series. But post season is like a new season.

"They come to play every game. You never know what you're gonna get," Bertsch said.

The Gamblers have a habit of winning at home. They currently sit with the second best winning record at home, they are 24-2-3 this season. Now the Saints must win once in Green Bay, to have a shot at the Clark Cup.

"We've played well against green bay all year round and we're playing really good hockey right now. The only thing motivating us right now is we all want to win a championship," Derek Docken said.
