Smoking materials are blamed for a fire that damaged at Marion home in the 600 block of 34th Avenue Tuesday night.

Crews were called to the blaze at 7:45, arriving to find the rear of the home engulfed in flames. Crews had the fire out in 20 minutes. Wednesday, officials determined the fire started on the screened-in deck on the back of the home. They say the smoking materials were placed too close to combustibles (wood, paper, plastic, cloth,etc.).

Smoking detectors were working and no one was injured.

Estimated value of property saved was $150,000.
