How many calories do you need? Here's the breakdown

Summer's just around the corner, and a lot of us are on self-imposed diets and exercise programs trying to get in shape.

The average amount of calories we actually need in a day varies.

For adult females, 1,800 to 2,000.

Adult males between 2,100 and 2,500.

Teenage girls between 1,900 and 2,200.

And teenage boys need between 2,200 and 3,000 calories a day.
