Dubuque winery up for sale?

A Dubuque winery is up for sale. Thursday afternoon Bob and Nan Smith, owners of Stone Cliff Winery, announced their retirement.

The Smith's first opened Stone Cliff in their home back in 2001. It started with just 500 bottles of wine.

Then expanded to the historic Star Brewery Building in 2007 and now produce almost 200,000 bottles a year.

The Smith's say they are looking for someone to buy the business, that helped boost tourism to the Port of Dubuque.

"We want them to maintain the type of products that we put out and also the closeness within the community," Bob Smith said.

"It's great that we have the community behind us. And they have been a tremendous support to us and we appreciate that," Nan Smith said.

To date, there are 81 wineries in the state of Iowa. The Smith's say they'll spend the next 12 months looking for a new owner. In the meantime it's business as usual.

The Smith's didn't disclose how much they were asking for the winery.
