Free hazardous materials clean up


Many homeowners struggle with what to do with old paint and cleaning supplies. Now Linn County residents have a solution that's set to hit the road.

The Linn County Solid Waste agency is providing a free clean up event for hazardous materials. The Pollution Prevention Center (PPC) will be in Alburnett Saturday, May 7th at the Bus Barn on North Main Street. The event will be the 2nd PPC event of the year.

From 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., residents can bring old oil-based paints, varnish, stains, poisons, cleaners and chemicals for proper disposal.

There are four more PPC events scheduled for the spring and summer:

 May 21st - Ely, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

June 4th - Fairfax, 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

June 18th  -  Mt. Vernon, 7:00 a.m. - 12 p.m.

June 25th - Lisbon from 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

The mobile events are free for the residents of the towns where they are located. All Linn County residents can use the Pollution Prevention Center at 1954 County Home Road, Marion to drop off household hazardous materials. Appointments can be made online at or call 319-373-4771.
