Improvements coming to Public Market building in Waterloo

You may soon see more activity at the Public Market building in downtown Waterloo. The Waterloo City Council approved funding for the build out phase of the Public Market building at the Riverloop Expo Plaza downtown. It was a formal step to pass through a $30,000 grant from the Black Hawk County Gaming Association. It will allow for building improvements to allow a tenant to move in. City leaders say that should spur more growth in the area.

"We've maybe struggled just a little bit with the use of the expo grounds as to who's managing and what's going on with it and we think that it's on the right track and the public market is personally, to me, a really exciting project," said Waterloo Mayor Buck Clark.

The council was also working with a September deadline to fund the market - or lose some Vision Iowa money. A reminder, this year, the plaza will host all the events for My Waterloo Days.
