West Branch native enjoys Royal Wedding festivities
WATERLOO (KWWL) -
While millions watched the Royal Wedding in London Friday, a Central College student from West Branch got to see the festivities up close and personal.
Emily Ciha is studying abroad there this semester, and she and other friends got a prime location for the big celebration. That's after she showed up at 11 a.m. Thursday morning outside the Clarence House, where Prince William spent his wedding eve. Emily says the highlight was meeting Prince William, and it was by pure luck. Emily says she noticed police blocking off the Clarence House, so she and another friend went to check it out. Well, an officer told her that if they stayed over by the house, and tried not to attrack too much attention, they would be in for a great surprise! A few minutes later, Prince William and Prince Harry came walking out the gates and went up and down the driveway shaking hands with people.
They were up bright and early Friday to witness the event, where they saw most of the royal family leave for Westminster Abbey. They even saw the queen go by afterwards in the carriage. Emily says that was the icing on the cake!
Emily says she lives about 5 minutes from Buckingham Palace, so she's being able to watch a lot of the royal preparations leading up to Friday's wedding.
