Matt Morris: Athlete of the Week

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Dubuque Fighting Saints wasted little time in their first playoff series since the franchise opened to notch a playoff sweep. Defeating the Fargo Force in three quick games to move onto the Clark Cup semifinal and goaltender Matt Morris was simply phenomenal.

"He's got tremendous work ethic and he's a very confident goaltender." Says Fighting Saints Head Coach Jim Montgomery, "Those are his two biggest strengths and I think that's what gave him confidence, he believes in himself sp much that he back boned us especially that overtime game. I thought we were outplayed and he really gave us confidence and then he just kept on playing great and our team got better."

In the three game series last weekend Morris finished with 74 total saves including a game three shutout, all while only allowing to 2 pucks in three games to skate by.  This was just a small sample of what Morris has done all season long. The senior at Dubuque Senior high finished with a 23-8 record along with a 92 percent save percentage. He knows that playoff time is crunch time.

"Playoff atmosphere, it's definitely the most important time of the year and just try to do everything I can to give the team a chance to win," says Morris.

The Dubuque Fighting Saints will look to continue their march to the Clark Cup Championship against the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday night.
