Dubuque police investigate social security advocate

Dubuque police are investigating 44-year-old Joseph William Murphy for fraudulent Social Security disability advocacy.

Murphy and his company, American Disability Entitlements, LLC, claimed to help get payments for those who had been denied Social Security disability.

He was arrested last year for allegedly opening a checking account with an invalid check. He was arrested again on April 14, for 5th degree theft in an incident unrelated to his business and on warrants out of Wisconsin.

Investigators are planning to file theft charges related to the Social Security advocacy business soon and are looking for anyone who may have been deceived by Murphy.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator David Randall with the Dubuque Police Department at 563-589-4429.

Murphy is currently being held in the Dubuque County Jail.
