Dubuque soldier injured by non-hostile fire


Another soldier was injured in Afghanistan last week, this time by non-hostile fire.

The Iowa National Guard confirmed 19-year-old Pfc. Cody Skahill of Dubuque was injured on Friday in Laghman Province, Afghanistan.

Col. Greg Hapgood with the Iowa National Guard said the injury was the result of a negligent discharge of a weapon. Hapgood says the incident is under investigation.

Skahill was evacuated to Texas for treatment. There is no information on his condition.

Skahill is assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division out of Dubuque.
