Motorcycle deaths dropped last year for second year in a row

Posted:

Motorcycle fatalities dropped last year for the second year in a row, but experts say the numbers may be misleading.

The new report from the Governors Highway Safety Association reveal that while motorcycle deaths fell a total of two-percent in 2010, it's a much smaller decline than the 16 percent drop in 2009.

In fact, fatalities actually rose during the warmer months of the 2010 when more bikers were on the roads.

The most troubling fact from the report finds helmet use fell 16 percent last year.

Experts are hopeful the innovation of anti-lock brakes on some motorcycles beginning next year will reduce the number of deaths and injuries.
