Calorie burning bonus from vigorous exercise

Vigorous exercise could give you a calorie-burning bonus.

Researchers at Appalachian State University studied 10 men who spent two days in a metabolic chamber, which is a tiny room that measures calories people burn while they're inside.

The first day they had to stay still, except for eating two meals and stretching every hour.

The second day they did the same thing, except they rode a stationary bike for 45 minutes at high intensity.

They found the calorie-burning effects of exercise lasted hours after they stopped riding.  Researchers say the men burned another 200 calories after they stopped exercising.

Experts say the post-work out calorie burn only happens when you exercise so hard you are breathing heavily and can't carry on a conversation.
