Two Anamosa teens charged with Arson

Anamosa Police have arrested two 16-year old boys in connection with a fire on April 17.

Crews were called to 403 N. Williams Street at 12:19 a.m. on April 17 for a report of a fire.  A passerby saw flames climbing the southwest corner of the house.  He called 9-1-1 and awakened the residents, Cassandra Erekson, her seven month old infant and Timothy Haas.

Police officers were able to slow the flames with a fire extinguisher and firefighters put out the fire.  Damage was contained to the southwest corner of the house.  The rest of the house sustained smoke damage.

Police received information related to the fire on Monday and they arrested Dayne Richard Taylor and Kase Darrell Hacker, both 16.  They are charged as adults with First Degree Arson.

Taylor and Hacker appeared in court Thursday morning and were released under direct supervision.

If convicted as adults, Taylor and Hacker face up to 25 years in prison, with a mandatory 70 percent to be served.

The courts can decide to transfer the case to juvenile court or prosecute them as adults.
