Judge sentences woman to prison for forged checks

MASON CITY (KWWL) -

A 40-year-old Mason City woman has been given two 15-year prison sentences for forgery.

Jennifer Collins pleaded guilty to the two counts in March after making a deal with prosecutors that other forgery counts would be dropped.  Collins was sentenced Monday in Cerro Gordo County District Court. A judge ordered the sentences be served at the same time. She was ordered to pay more than $3,300 in restitution.

Prosecutors say Collins and 44-year-old Brian Edmonds forged checks to businesses in Mason City and nearby towns.  Edmonds has pleaded not guilty but is scheduled back in court on May 2, for a plea-change hearing.
