IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa City police say a Coralville man has been charged with aggressive solicitation.

Officers were called to the Ped Mall, near the intersection of Washington and Dubuque Streets, around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday after people complained about an aggressive panhandler on City Plaza.

They found 49-year-old Michael Wayne Daniels holding a plastic coffee container and sign that police say "told of his unfortunate circumstances".

The officer stated that when he approached Daniels to tell him he was in violation of city code for being in the wrong area, Daniels began arguing and screaming that he knew his rights.

The officer says that Daniels refused to lower his voice when asked.

Daniels is charged with Aggressive Solicitation and Disorderly Conduct.

Police list Daniels as living at 309 7th Street in Coralville.
