Cy-Hawk Series gets new title sponsor

After seven years, the Cy-Hawk Series is getting a new title sponsor.

The annual competition between the Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes will be known as the "Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series" starting this fall.

The four-year deal is an expansion of the "Iowa Corn-Fed Game Day" promotion and will include game day activities and special prize giveaways.

"We are excited that Iowa Corn has teamed up with Iowa State and Iowa to promote the Cyclone-Hawkeye rivalry" said Jamie Pollard, Iowa State University Director of Athletics, in a written statement. "The Cy-Hawk series has captured the imagination of our fans and truly is a celebration of one of the great rivalries in intercollegiate athletics. We want to thank Iowa Corn for their decision to promote all of the Iowa State-Iowa match ups. It is especially appropriate because Iowa Corn represents farmers and supports agricultural and scientific initiatives that are so much a part of our state and Iowa State University".

"We are also pleased that Iowa Corn's experiences with our program during the past few years have been well-received and they have chosen to increase their investment with us through the Cy-Hawk Series. It's a win for everyone involved including Iowa Corn, the Hawkeyes, Cyclones, and the fans of both teams," said Gary Barta, Director of Athletics at the University of Iowa, in a written statement.

The Cy-Hawk Series was started in 2004 with Hy-Vee as the title sponsor.  The series is tied 3-3.  Iowa leads the current season, 13-10, with two events left to go.
