School employee's death ruled accidental

The death of a Dubuque Community School District employee has been ruled an accident.

Lawrence "Junior" Brehm, 33, was killed around 5:00 a.m. on Feb. 8, after he was struck in the parking lot of the administration building by a district vehicle driven by another employee.

Superintendent Dr. Larie Godinez says the Dubuque Police Department has ruled it an accident and no charges will be filed.

Brehm was an electrician and had been employed with the district since 2005.

"We are grateful to the Dubuque Police Department for their efforts and are thankful to all those in the community who have provided their support to Junior's family and to the employees of the school district who knew and cared for Junior," Dr. Godinez said in a written statement. "It was a tragedy to lose such a young person, and we will not forget the contribution Junior made to the district."
