Hawkeye defensive back transferring to another school

Willie Lowe, one of 13 players hospitalized in January with rhabdomyolysis, says he plans to transfer to another school.

Lowe, a senior reserve defensive back from Cleveland, Ohio, told ESPN.com that he's not sure if he'll be able to play again.

Lowe and 12 other players were hospitalized after an intense weightlifting workout caused them to suffer the condition that releases muscle fiber cells into the bloodstream.  It can also cause kidney damage.

Lowe says he is still down 20 pounds and has been having headaches.

Gary Barta, Iowa's athletic director, released a statement saying that they are honoring Lowe's request to speak with other schools.

Coach Kirk Ferentz has said that all 13 players were medically cleared to practice.

The Hawkeyes continue spring practice and their annual spring game is scheduled for April 16 at Kinnick Stadium.
