Synthetic drug hospitalizations up

Medical emergency workers are responding to more and more synthetic drug related calls.

The products are sold as incense or bath salts. The synthetic substances mimics marijuana, cocaine and other illegal drugs and said to cause seizures and hallucinations and even killing some.

New numbers show that since January 2700 people have fallen ill from the drug since January. That's compared to less than 3,200 all last year.

Authorities say at this rate, medical emergencies could go up nearly fivefold by the end of the year.
