New portable cameras for Cedar Falls police

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

One eastern Iowa police department has found a new way to keep an eye on crime.

The Cedar Falls Police Department purchased two portable cameras that can be worn on an officer's uniform by simply clipping them on.

The advantages of police recordings include improved officer safety, resolving complaints, as well as improved officer training.

Chief Jeff Olson says these portable recording devices allow officers to take a camera into places they wouldn't normally get to go.

"We have a lot of activities at the bars particularly on the weekend and you have bar fights and different situations inside. This is just something that can pick up a lot of that activity," said Olson.

The Cedar Falls Police Department was able to purchase the cameras through a grant from the Mark and Nancy Miller Trust Fund and a grant from Wal-mart.
