18-year-old pleads guilty in Cedar Rapids murder

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

An 18-year-old has pleaded guilty after making a deal with Linn County prosecutors to lower his murder charge.

Denem Null, of Cedar Rapids, had been charged with first-degree murder for killing 26-year-old Kevin Bell last January.

Null pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of Second Degree Murder and First Degree Robbery. Jury selection for his trial was scheduled to begin on Monday.

Two other men also charged pleaded guilty to robbery charges and had agreed to testify against Null. Police say Null fired the fatal shot.

Null now faces up to 50 years on the murder charge, 25 years for the robbery.
