DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Dubuque Senior High School welcomed its new head football coach Dale Ploessl at a reception Sunday afternoon.

Accepting the head coaching job at Dubuque Senior is a homecoming for Ploessl.

The Dubuque Wahlert alum has left his assistant coaching position at Montana State University to take the head football coaching job at Dubuque Senior.

"I'm real excited to see and anxious to see how much we can get done in this first year and then kind of see where we got to go from there," Ploessl said Sunday.

Ploessl, who played at Drake, joined former Drake coach Rob Ash at Montana in 2007.

Ploessl was a graduate assistant at Drake in 1993 and 1994 before becoming the Bulldogs offensive line coach and offensive coordinator.

In 2000, Ploessl was a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State and held the same position at Iowa State in 2001.  He was then hired by California University of Pennsylvania as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator.

Ploessl returned to Drake in 2004 before heading to Montana State.

Players, parents, alumni and fans will have an opportunity to meet Dale Ploessl at a meet and greet on April 10.  It will be held in the Dubuque Senior High School cafeteria at 4:00 p.m.

Mike Wulfekuhle resigned as the Rams head coach in November after compiling a 1-17 record in two seasons.
