111 Cedar Falls flood damaged homes demolished


Time is ticking for Cedar Falls properties damaged by the floods of 2008. All three buyout programs end in 2012.

More than 150 homes and eight businesses destroyed by the floods of 2008 are expected to be demolished. 111 of the properties purchased through the program have already been torn down.

Of the 226 properties eligible for they buyout programs 144 of them have already been accepted into the programs. City officials say they expect that number to grow by the filing deadline of 2012.

Demolitions is estimated to cost $13.5 million. Officials are still trying to decided what to do with the land which must remain green space under the terms of the federal buyout program.
