DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Wartburg Theological Seminary community welcomed its new president Saturday.

Hundreds gathered for the presidential inauguration of and address by the Rev. Dr. Stanley Olson. He is the seminary's 13th president.

On Saturday morning, the presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America oversaw the inauguration.

Olson grew up in Eagle Grove, Iowa and was ordained in 1976.

His education includes Luther Seminary and Yale University, where he earned his PhD.

Olson said the ELCA has excellent schools, colleges and universities.

"We have these assets," he said in his address, "because over the generations, the church has taken seriously the knowledge of about this complex world and taken seriously and highly valued education in that great breadth of knowledge."

Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque is just one of eight seminaries in the US belonging to the ELCA.
