Iowa Soldier injured in Afghanistan


One of Iowa's nearly 3,000 soldiers serving in Afghanistan is recovering, after being hit by small arms fire.

23-year-old SPC Nathan Allen from Atlantic, was hit Tuesday while in combat operations in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.

He was taken to the US Military hospital at Bagram Air Base.

Allen's mom says her son called home early Wednesday morning to tell his family he was hurt.

He is assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky. He originally enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard in February 2008 and later transferred to the U.S. Army in August 2008. He is a 2006 graduate of Atlantic High School.
