UNI Football begins spring practices

The UNI football program welcomes back 18 starters from the defending Missouri Valley Football Conference Championship team.  Leading the way for the Panthers is quarterback Tirrell Rennie who earned Valley newcomer of the year honors after leading the UNI to the FCS playoffs.

Panther head coach Mark Farley says his team is way ahead of last year's squad going into the spring.

Farley said, "What's nice about this group is last year at this time there were a lot of uncertainties. By winning our league last year with a young team no we have experience...so we can add on or take the next step with this group because they're back again this year. The upside of this group this spring is that the experience allows us to start much further ahead that what we did last year. What we can't assume is that to bypass the fundamentals of the building blocks. We're starting from scratch and we can go much faster because we can install much faster."

UNI concludes spring practices with the annual spring game on Friday April 29.
