$1.5 Million to Purchase New Buses in Cedar Rapids

Nearly $1.5 million dollars will come to the city of Cedar Rapids for a boost to its public transportation system.

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin announced Wednesday the city is getting $1.468 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration's competitive State of Good Repair Grant Program.

In a statement, Harkin says, "These funds will help Cedar Rapids replace old buses with safe and efficient buses, making it easier for the elderly and those living with disabilities to get to work and around the city." Harkin said.

Cedar Rapids will use the funds to purchase five new buses.
