Only a few days left for renters to apply for flood assistance

Renters that were impacted by the floods of 2008 only have a few days left to apply for assistance.

The Renters Personal Possessions Replacement Program gives eligible flood-impacted rental households up to $4,000 in assistance to replace things lost or damaged in the flood. It's funded through Local Option Sales Tax revenues and is designed to match federal funds previously received for personal flood recovery.

Eligible households must submit an application by Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

Applicants can use the online application posted at or pick up a paper copy at one of the following locations:

- Oakhill-Jackson Neighborhood Resource Center at St. Wenceslaus Church Gym Building, 510 16th Avenue SE
- Cedar Rapids City Hall, 3851 River Ridge Drive NE
- Cedar Rapids Neighborhoods Office, 625 First Avenue SE

To date, 867 renters have applied for the program. By April 1, $2.6 million will have been given to flood-impacted renters.

For more information about the program, please call AmeriCorps*VISTA at (319) 540-4819.
