Michelle Obama to speak at UNI graduation

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- University of Northern Iowa President Ben Allen announced on Friday that First Lady Michelle Obama will speak at spring commencement.

In a letter to students, faculty and staff, Allen said that the normal three ceremonies will be consolidated into one on Saturday, May 7, at 11:00 a.m. in the UNI-Dome so that all 1,900 graduates will have the opportunity to hear the speech.

"We are honored to host the first lady, someone whose commitment to service, children and healthy communities, reflects UNI's commitment to serve our community, our state and our nation. We welcome this opportunity for our students to hear the first lady's inspiring story of how higher education impacted her life and her passion for service," Allen said in the letter.

All graduating students participating in the commencement ceremony will be given eight tickets for guests. Those tickets are free, but all guests must have a ticket.
