Exercise may decrease blood pressure resulting from salty diet

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- It's widely known a diet high in salt can raise blood pressure, but new research suggests exercise could help counter that effect.

Researchers studied blood pressure readings of adults on diets ranging from 3,000 milligrams to 18,000 milligrams of sodium a day.

They found the more physical activity participants had, the lower their blood pressure. Still, experts say exercise can't do it alone.

The American Heart Association recommends no more than 1,500 milligrams of sodium a day.
