Rachael Cheeseman: Athlete of the Week

Reinbeck (KWWL) -- After a second place finish in the 400 open at the Dickinson relay this past Tuesday, Rachael Cheeseman of Gladbrook-Reinbeck still has goals to accomplish.

"She knows this is it, this is her senior year," Rebel girls track Coach Shelli Smoldt said. "She knows she's got to go out and this is the last chance there's no more, hey coach I'll do it next year. She driven, dedicated and ready to do it."

Track has always been a passion for Cheeseman and she plans to run in college but it was her work in an acceleration program that has her poised for a big season. Last season Cheeseman finished 4th in the open 4 at the state meet and she hopes to knock even a few more seconds of the 1:01 she ran at the Dickinson relays.

"Being at state I always do the best at state because of the atmosphere, but I hoping to run sub 60's or 60's consistently this season. That's the spot I want to be at," Cheeseman said.

While Rachael hopes to break that 60 second barrier in the 400 and break a school record, her ultimate goal has always been to win a state championship.
