Panthers fall to SMU in CIT quarterfinals 57-50

Posted:

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Poor shoot doomed the UNI basketball team as Southern Methodist University took advantage ending the Panthers season with a 57-50 win.

UNI (20-13) managed to shoot just 26% from the field, and trailed nearly the entire ball game.  Kwadzo Ahelegbe drove the lane for a bucket 3 minutes in to give the Panthers an 8-4 edge.  It was a lead they lost 90 seconds later as the Mustangs never trailed again in the ball game.

SMU big man Papa Dia led the Mustangs with 17 points, 15 of which came in the first half.  Robert Nyakundi and Collin Mangrum chipped in 15 apiece.

In his final game, UNI senior Kwadzo Ahelegbe led the Panthers with 18 points.
