U of I teaching assistants in line for raises

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Graduate teaching and research assistants at the University of Iowa are in line for two percent raises in July.

That's under a union contract up for approval by the Board of Regents.

Members of COGS, a labor union affiliated with the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, negotiated a two-year contract with the state in February.

The regents could give final approval during Wednesday's meeting in Ames.

The deal would increase their wages by 2 percent July 1 and by 2.5 percent the following year.

The minimum scholarships TAs and RAs receive would also increase to about $3,800 per semester, enough to cover tuition in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
