Penn State grabs lead after day 2 at NCAA Wrestling Championships


PHILADELPHIA (KWWL)-- Former Cyclone great Cael Sanderson and the Penn State Nittany Lions are on the verge of claiming a much anticipated NCAA Wrestling Championship.  Penn State surged to a commanding lead after a terrific semifinal round that saw 3 of 4 Nittany Lions earn spots in Saturday's finals.

The Iowa Hawkeyes dropped two of their three semifinal round matches with defending champion Matt McDonough the only Hawk advancing to the finals at 125.  Montell Marion of Iowa lost a double overtime decision to number one seed Kellen Russell of Michigan while the Hawkeyes' suffered a devastating loss at 184 where Grant Gambrall was pinned by Penn State's Quentin Wright.

Penn State leads with 92.5 points followed by Cornell with 75 and Iowa is in third with 69.5.
